The first thing that hits you when you enter the shops this season is the bright colours reminiscent of the 80s. Some of the colour blocking and clashes can be quite alarming and you may wonder what you are going to wear this autumn. If in doubt, then consider buying a gift voucher as a perfect Christmas presents for women.

Don’t be too alarmed by the bright colours when you hit the shops. Remember there are other trends around this season and other ways to wear brights other than top-to-toe! A colour consultant can help you decide which colours are the best for your colouring. Let’s have a look at what trends are around and how to wear them.Dallas modern furniture

Lace

Lace is available on the high street, mostly in black and light neutrals this season. Almost everyone can enjoy the look that lace gives to an outfit. If black is too harsh for your natural colouring, wearing a garment that layers black lace over a lighter neutral can give a softer more wearable look. Beware of lace though if your look is very natural as you might find it too fussy and will feel uncomfortable in it even for the evening.

Metallics

Metallics are popular this season for day and evening wear. You’ll find shimmery gold and silver fabrics and plenty of sparkly sequins. Most colouring types can wear gold or silver tones but if your dominant colouring is warm (red tones to the hair), gold tones will be more striking on you. If, on the other hand, you have a dominant cool colouring (silver, grey or ash blonde hair), silver will be much more flattering for you.

Checks

Laid-back plaid is relaxed and can give a feel of life in the country. Checks are ideal for the natural and classic style personalities as they give a pattern but are not outlandish. There are muted beiges which will suit the lights and softs (blonde to mid brown hair) and will work really well for the warms. Also present on the high street are the black and white and subtle grey tones. These will work better for those with a cool skin tone. If the check is bold with strong contrast it will work best on the deeps (dark hair and eyes) and the clears (dark hair, light skin, bright eyes). Be careful when using checks that they suit your body shape. If your body is very curvy the check will need to be cut on the bias to make it work. The safest way to wear checks is in your accessories such as bags, scarves and shoes.

Brights

Brights are everywhere! They come in dresses, tops, coats, shoes, tights and bags. They are fun and exciting but only you can decide how far you want to take them! If you are dramatic or creative you can really enjoy mixing shocking pinks with reds and purples, royal blue with cerise and bright teals and aqua. Everywhere you go you will find inspiration for new and exciting combinations. If you are more conservative in your look, maybe just add brights in small quantities either in bags and shoes, or in jewellery and belts. A hint can be just enough to give you a current look.

When you’ve finished reading our informative article about replacement window screens, you can impress your friends and family with the amazing amount of knowledge you have achieved on this subject and about home improvement in general. I moved into my new old house last year; new because I had never lived in it before and old because the original construction dated back about six decades. I love the character and charm of my older home, but what I didn’t like was the way bugs could get into my house all spring and summer long because the screening material on the windows had sadly deteriorated. I needed replacement window screens in the worst way, but one trip to the local home improvement store proved that this task was much easier said than done. I spent some time staring at the display of these supplies, but somehow the time I spent didn’t make it any simpler to choose and purchase all of the equipment that I would need to put a new face on my home. I left the store rather discouraged, but decided to try my hand shopping for replacement window screens online to see if the process would become any clearer to me. Sure enough, the websites for these companies were laid out in easy-to-read language and instructions that not only allowed me to choose the supplies I needed, but also collect all of the necessary information to complete the job on my own.

No matter what you though about the first part of this article, the second part is bound to blow you away. I was also relieved to find that if the chore proved to be too much for me to accomplish by myself, there were companies listed that could take care of installing replacement window screens for me — all I would have to do was sign the check when the job was completed. And for the do-it-yourselfer, supplies were much easier to find online than on the jumbled shelves at the neighborhood hardware store. After measuring all of the windows in my home that required renovation, I went to a discount site and ordered the precise supplies that I would need. I also read through the information and instructions that were listed to ensure that I’d be able to install my new replacement window screens properly, since improper installation could still leave cracks and openings that would allow a variety of outside debris and various creepy-crawlies to get in. Now that I’ve successfully installed the replacement window screens that I needed, I’ll be able to enjoy a whole spring and summer without the worry of unwelcome flies, moths, and mosquitoes sneaking inside for a visit. Completing the project myself was a lot easier than I thought it would be, and I saved big on my replacement window screens in the process. I couldn’t ask for anything more — except maybe a couple of volunteers to help me wash my new windows! When you carefully analyze every part that we have discussed about replacement window screens, you will see a familiar thread of which to explore.

It used to be that your choices in paint were confined to the color and the question of latex vs. oil. However, our increasing knowledge of our impact on our environment is changing the face of home painting. The paint that we have taken for granted is bubbling over with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which are potential carcinogens. The fumes emitted by these substances can last for years after the paint was applied. It is estimated that the air within a house is three times as polluted as the air outside the house.

Today, there is a big movement afoot to produce paints that impact our lives and health a lot less. In fact, we have been returning to the compounds that people historically used to paint their dwellings – limestone, clay, even milk. Recycling paint has become another method of reducing our demand on our environment’s natural resources.

One choice is limestone – good, old-fashioned whitewash. This paint can be tinted various colours and can be used indoors or out – as long as the surface being painted is porous, allowing the lime to sink into the material. Lime allows the material it covers to breathe, preventing the buildup of humidity and eventual damage to the dwelling.

Clay paint is available in many natural colours, plus a few more created with the addition of dyes to the natural color of the base. It imparts an earthy look to the home. It can also absorb some odors, making it a good choice for the kitchen and bathroom areas.

Milk paint is actually made from casein, a protein found in milk, lime, oil and other substances used to tint the mixture. This is a very time-oriented paint, as milk protein spoils just like milk does. Thus, it must be applied within a limited time of mixing it.

There are a number of concerns about “natural” paints. First, they can be expensive to buy and may have a limited time of viability before they become less efficacious when applied. Many cannot be washed or cleaned, necessitating repainting to remove the sight of dirt or marks. This can be circumvented by applying a sealer, but that also means more expense. These paints also tend to wear more quickly than standard paints, thus making the need for repainting more frequent.

There are now companies manufacturing recycled paint. In Canada, the only one is Boomerang Paint (boomerangpaint.com), based in Quebec. Recycled paint manufacturers take in unused paint and combines it to produce a new, stable paint. These paints can come in all sorts of types: latex, alkyd, etc. and are very low in VOCs.

Choosing an environmentally friendly paint will pay off, not only for your environment, but also for you and your family. More and more retailers are offering alternative, healthy paint choices for the home painter. Consider them the next time you need to paint something in your home or your home itself.
